5/25/11 6 Months Week 1

Me & Dawson
Dawson's weekly developmental update:
Independent sitting is itself an important skill, but it's also a big step toward learning to crawl. Once your baby can sit up, it's only a matter of time, strength, and coordination before that translates to a lunge forward onto hands and knees. A few babies start crawling (or getting around via some other form of early locomotion, like scooting) by 6 months, although most take off between 7 and 9 months.
He's doing good at practicing sitting up. He still tends to lean to one side or the other, but he will be able to sit unsupported in no time. Mommy isn't wild about this, because it means that my little boy is growing up. ....Wow. That's a lot to handle. He's such a good baby. He wakes up smiling every morning. You have no idea how that makes me feel and makes all of my days start off positive, no matter what.
Yesterday our little boy got his 6 month shots. He always does really well with them. He cries for about 10-15 seconds, and once Mommy holds him he's fine. Yesterday we also had Dr. CJ check out something on Dawson. It is called a Sacral Dimple. I didn't know that before yesterday, but I did know it wasn't "normal." As it turns out about 2% of babies or 1 in 50 have this. If it's serious it may indicate a problem with the spinal cord and/or a urinary tract issue. Thankfully, Dawson isn't having either of these issues, and it seems to be just fine. There are specific things doctors can look for to be able to identify the seriousness of the dimple. I had no idea it could have been so serious otherwise I may have been a complete basket case! Dr. CJ told me one of her sons had one too. I just thank God that he's going to be alright.
As for everything else, well everything is going just fine. We are excited and anticipating the weekend. We simply cannot wait to spend the weekend with the Deans and Neylands! Dallas here we come!!!
I hope all of you take time to remember the families in Oklahoma and in Missouri.
Have a great rest of the week,
Love,
Lori
